A New Hope

It’s that time of year again. The flowers are blooming; the birds are chirping, and the boys of summer are back (it helps if you’re listening to Thin Lizzy at this moment). Yes, I’m talking about opening day, one of the greatest days of the year, right up there with Christmas and Arbor day (okay, not really). Baseball is back, for their April to September marathon of a season, the second longest in any sport. And it this day, and this day only, where every fan of any of the 30 major league teams believes that it is their year. From the perennial contenders like the Braves, Red Sox, and Yankees, to the bottom dwellers like the Devil Rays, to, well, what can I say about the Cubs, really…
Opening day brings up many great feelings and some bad ones too. It was last year that Jesbus (Jeebus) and I stood in line waiting for opening day tickets to the Braves-dodgers game at Dodger Stadium. Well, it was no surprise that we did not get them, and sadly, it was a great game, a high scoring game, an exciting game. The Braves spanked the dodgers, yet, we went the next night, and for some reason, the Braves lost that one.
But those feeling should be forgotten, because opening day is like, well, the Messiah if you will…it brings hope for everyone. Well, at least for one day…(unless you’re a Cubs fan, then sadly, you just don’t have any)…
